About Toby

Toby is a sweet 5 year old ruby Cavalier boy who came into rescue from a pet home in sad circumstances.

He’s very affectionate and loves to cuddle upon the sofa or sit on your knee. He likes to follow you around the house or watch from the sofa. He is not anxious when left. He can be a bit of a fussy eater and sometimes needs a bit of encouragement by hand feeding him a little to get him interested.

Toby gets very excited when his harness is picked up, he settles well in the car and travels well. He has coped well with his 20/30 minute short walks, this may improve as his stamina improves and he becomes more used to exercise.

He is a quiet, happy boy who loves people, he happily greets other dogs when out and about but quickly moves his attention onto humans for a stroke. He is not cat tested and does not chase bird or squirrels in the garden. He is fully house trained, will sit on command and go to his bed when asked. He pulls a little on the lead but can also walk calmly by your side.

Toby has a grade 5 heart murmur, he had an echocardiogram which confirmed Mitral Valve Disease and a enlarged heart. He has started heart medication and is currently not symptomatic, he is stage B2. His pre-anaesthetic SDMA blood test showed he has slight damage to his kidneys which will need to be monitored, no action is currently required but it would be sensible to repeat this test in 3-6 months.

He also has grade 4 luxating patellas both knees and hip dysplasia. He does have trouble with jumping and climbing stairs but is showing good improvement. His arthritis pain is now being managed by a Librela injection monthly which will need to be continued in his forever home. He has had a dental while in rescue resulting in 3 teeth being removed and a descale and clean.

Toby would prefer a quiet home as the only dog without young children, he needs his human to be around most of the time although can be left for short periods.
