Hugo is a handsome 9-year-old Tricolour Cavalier that came into rescue from a breeding establishment.
This little chap has come along leaps and bounds since his arrival. He had never been inside a home before and everything was new to him. The other Cavaliers have shown him the ropes and he is super happy in his routine.
He walks very well on the harness and lead and is confident in most situations when he has a doggy friend by his side. He really enjoys being off lead in the paddock and races around exploring, that is really when he is in his element. He very much enjoys travelling in the car with his pals to new places for new sniffs. He can be nervous when meeting new people and it takes time for him to trust you.
His toilet training is coming along very well, however, being an ex-stud boy he will continue to cock his leg, especially until he is settled in a new home. He does understand to go out upon waking and we take him out many times a day and he is doing great. He sometimes will guard his toys but an experienced owner wouldn’t find this problematic.
Sadly Hugo has a grade 5 heart murmur and following his echocardiogram he has started heart medication. He is not symptomatic at this time, however, MVD is a progressive disease and he will need frequent veterinary monitoring. He has some lumbosacral pain and is on pain relief for this and is doing really well, it has given him a new lease on life and he is much more springy! His exercise regime will need some thought, he very much enjoys getting out and about and he absolutely must continue being exercised, but obviously, he cannot do very long walks due to his conditions.
We are looking for an experienced home for Hugo without young children or visiting young children. His adopter must be home for most of the day in order to give him the best possible life that he has been waiting for. He must have at least one confident dog in his forever home to learn from and feel safe with.
The successful applicants must be able to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet and be immediately available for a home check. The meet and greet must take place within 5 days of a successful home check. Please can we remind you not to telephone the rescue regarding adoptions at any time, you are more than welcome to email us with any [email protected]
