Freddie is a special, 11-month-old Blenheim Cavalier who was sadly born blind. Darling Freddie is looking for a very special forever home. A reduced adoption fee applies.
He is the sweetest, most loving puppy, with a confident and happy nature. He loves playing with the other young Cavaliers and can often be found wrestling with them and playing with toys. He has some mild learning disabilities but is extremely intelligent. Things like toilet training are harder for him, and he is easily distracted, for example.
Freddie needs an adopter who can give him some extra love and care. He will need patience as he learns to navigate his new home and find where everything is. His adopter must be a great dancer so they can navigate without tripping over him when he walks in front of their feet! This applies to lead walking, too, which can be a bit challenging at times!
He travels well in the car. He sits in the back seat with his friends for comfort. They help him a lot when going out. He really depends on them. He needs at least one confident doggy friend in his forever home. One who also likes to play would be ideal.
He has been seen by the neurologist and has had an MRI scan. He was diagnosed with microphthalmia and a retinal-choroidal coloboma in his left eye. He also has chiari malformation. Microphthalmia means his eye did not fully develop. A coloboma is a gap or hole in the eye tissue that is present from birth. This condition is due to incomplete closure of a tiny gap in the eye during fetal development. In Freddie’s case, MRI scans showed that the cyst from the coloboma reached behind his eye and into his nasal passage. It even caused some changes to the bone structure. To help him live comfortably, his eye was removed. He has recovered extremely well. He needs to remain on pain relief for chiari malformation. He also has a low-grade luxating patella and mild hip dysplasia.
We will discuss things in more detail during telephone interviews, but we are willing to cover his neurology veterinary care for the rest of his life to ensure he gets what he needs.
Freddie can be rehomed with children over 8 years and with a dog savvy cat. He must have a confident and playful dog in his forever home to help him continue to learn.
Freddie is in foster in North Lincolnshire. His adopter(s) must be prepared to purchase a lifetime insurance policy or have the means to cover future health issues. Home workers must be able to produce a contract/or a letter from their employer. Tenants must send a letter from their landlord stating they have permission to have the dog at their property.
Please only apply when you have discussed this with all family members, are committed to offering the dog a home, and have fully considered their needs.
The successful applicants must travel to the foster home for a meet and greet. They should also be ready for a home check right away. The meet and greet must occur within five days of a successful home check. Can we please remind you not to telephone the rescue regarding adoptions at any time.
