About Duke
Duke is a 4 year old black and tan Cavalier that came into rescue from a pet home. He is 4 years old.
Duke is a large Cavalier and very strong- think more Labrador than Cavalier! We are looking for a home for him as an only dog, he does loves doggy playmates but in the foster home he had been a bit rough with the other dogs and displayed some guarding behaviours. He is currently in a foster home on his own and is much happier and doing fantastically well.He is very friendly, obedient and intelligent but he really needs an experienced owner that is really willing to put the time into training him. Duke can get a little boisterous when walking and pulls like a trooper on the lead. He has been in training whilst in rescue and has improved greatly. This training will need to continue as he is a very strong boy and he must attend training classes in his forever home- that is a condition of adoption. He would benefit from lots of further socialisation, Duke is not a sofa dog he needs plenty of stimulation and lovely long walks every day. He can get a little vocal on walks when he sees other dogs or birds but soon quietens down, he is very fit and can walk a good 45 minutes at least twice a day. He is house trained and travels well in a car.Duke likes to watch birds in the garden he will chase and bark at them, he quickly stops when told no and responds well to his name been called. He sits on command and goes to his bed when asked. Duke doesn’t really play with toys he will however play with a ball and bring it back to you. He enjoys time in the garden, he also loves attention sat by your side or cuddled next to you on the sofa.Duke is a very healthy boy and is heart clear, he has a lovely big head. He does have the Cavalier typical benign Thrombocytopenia, we have carried out a series of blood tests to ensure it is the benign condition. Duke has had a dental and is now up to date with vaccines, worming etc.As Duke can be boisterous the resident children must be 10+, he can live with dog savvy cats. He must have a very active owner/family that are willing to continue his training.Duke is in foster in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The successful applicants must be able to travel to foster home for the meet and greet.
