About Louis and Gracie

Hi Louis and Gracie here. We wanted to write our own bios, our foster mum is pretty cool and she knows we knows best what we are wishing for.

I’m the oldest here so I will lead, My name is Louis and I actually prefer to think of myself as 13.5 years young, I’m still very fit you know, I can jump on sofas, I enjoy nice steady walks and even still have my own teeth.

I don’t pull on the lead, I’m quite happy to walk nicely by your side, not like our Gracie, she always tries to beat me, I think that’s just a girl thing though.

The thing I like best in the world is firstly my dinner closely followed by as many chin rubs and cuddles as I can collect. My foster pawents say I’m a bit of a character, I have to agree with them there. I sometimes have to bark at them you know if I want more attention or my dinner is running late, someone has to be the boss around here. I do like to bark at the cat that lives here but I can’t be bothered to chase her. She thinks she scares me with that look she gives me but she doesn’t.

The vet man has told me I do have a few health issues. I have mild Syringomyelia so I am on medication for this, it’s very much under control but my foster pawents say I will always need to take my tablets. I also have a grade 3/4 heart murmur, I have had an echo and no medication is needed at the present time. I have dry eye in my right eye so will need to remain on optimune for life. I am starting a renal diet as some of my latest blood results for my kidneys show they are starting to deteriorate, we are waiting on further results.

I’m going to hand over to Gracie now, she’s been waiting patiently for her say.

I think Gracie is a really pretty name, for a beautiful girl like me don’t you agree? I’m 12 years old now, some days I act my age and some days I don’t. Some days I’m even a little bit sassy and my confidence is growing daily.

I was struggling when I first arrived with my foster pawents, everything hurt. I had to go visit that vet man and a lovely lady called a neurologist as well so they could help to make me feel better. I think these people might be real life super heroes you know because I am feeling so good now.

I also, like Louis, have something called Syringomyelia along with Chiari Malformation with pain. This pain is managed well now, I must remain on this medication for the rest of my life. A treatment plan has also been put in place for me for the future by the lovely neurologist. I do have limb weakness and I can’t jump or climb stairs like that show off Louis. I am also happy with and can manage short 20 minute walks.

I am also on optimune for life now to help with my dry and have also had an echo for my heart. I have a grade 5/6 murmur and have now started pimobendan, again I will need to remain on this forever. My teeth were so wobbly they’ve taken them all away now, I’m still managing really well with my dinner though, I’m a girl that loves my food and I will always have to watch my waistline.

We both have a condition called Myoclonus , it’s very common in elderly cavaliers and sometimes it makes us twitch a lot but it doesn’t effect our quality of life. Me and Louis have talked about our dreams together and we would like to share them with you.

We have so much love and licks you give in return for a nice quite retirement home, with some new pawents who will love us and care for us as much as our foster pawents do. We like lots of human company, and a couple of little walks a day.

Louis has a comfy sofa at the top of his list and I have a new donut bed at the top of mine please. We don’t mind visiting little humans but we can’t live with them. We are happy to live alongside some fur siblings.
